Discover Tasmania’s search function allows you to locate places listed on the Tasmania Heritage Register by suburb or local government area and view these on an interactive map. Use the portal to find registered places in the areas you’re exploring and build you own heritage tour of Tasmania.
Many of the listings include fascinating stories of the lives, contributions and associations of the people behind the buildings, bringing these places to life and shedding light on Tasmania’s historic cultural heritage.
Learn more about architectural styles, designers and builders
Interested in a specific architectural style? Discover Tasmania allows you to search for registered places by the 16 architectural styles evident in Tasmania’s cities, towns and rural landscapes.
You can also explore the Architectural Styles Guides which show the key attributes of places built in each of these styles and include examples of registered places.
Discover Tasmania also provides details of the designers and builders responsible for registered places, including the carpenters, stonemasons, artists, engineers and other craftspeople who have made notable a contribution to Tasmania’s built heritage.
Use the portal to identify registered places associated with a specific architect or architectural stye. For example, people interested in the work of renowned Tasmanian architect Henry Hunter can find details of the more than 50 registered places he designed.

The Discover Heritage User Guide shows you how to undertake a basic search of the portal to locate a place registered on the Tasmanian Heritage Register and find out more about that place.
Discover Heritage Advanced User Guide
The Advanced User Guide shows you how to undertake an advanced search of the portal which allows you to narrow your search by: place type; architectural style; designer or builder; chronological period; and notable persons or organisations.
It also provides a link to a detailed timeline of the nine chronological periods used to classify the chronology of places listed on the Tasmanian Heritage Register.
